First and foremost, I got my new computer! It only cost me $500, and I built it myself (with a little help from my roommate Lestat, of course. This just makes me feel so free, as I've always seen game that I've wanted to play online, but have never had a powerful enough machine to run them. And even if I could run the game, very few of them looked decent on my 40 inch display. Having a relatively new graphics card has really given me the power that I need to play games on maximum graphics with comfort. It really makes me happy, and I am so happy and grateful to everyone who got together and made it possible. The only downside is that I will no longer have an excuse to feed.
Moving on, I was met with an incredible honor this evening. For this one, I suppose I'll need to go into a little backstory (majorly long, considering such a small point I'm about to make. Oh well, it's my blog, nerd. Loljkluvya).
See, I attend East Carolina University. I'm majoring in Communication, with concentrations in both PR and Journalism. I hope to take my degree and use the skills I have learned in order to attend law school, and become a lawyer.
Seeing as how I'm a Comm major, I'm naturally surrounded by journalist nerds. Well, it seems that I'm a journalism nerd, now! Each week, as a homework assignment, we are to write a news story based on a set of given facts in the form of notes the instructor gives us. These stories are written in either print or television broadcast formats. Recently, we've been working more with TV writing, and I seem to have gotten the hang of it. We wrote the scripts two weeks ago, and were (in a twist of events) tasked with (instead of writing another news story) recording ourselves as news anchors reading that story. I dreaded the task all week, continually putting it off for as long as I could. Eventually, I had 4 hours left before it was due, and I had yet to start it. I knew I needed a good grade in the class, so I gave it a shot. I got all dapper and dressed up, and read my script as naturally as possible. Gosh, lemme tell ya, it took many, many takes, because j had to have it all perfect in one take, and I'm not exactly great with my words. After many trials and tribulations, I was able to finish it, and submit it before midnight! And boy, I was exhausted (yet relieved).
So what's the point of the story? Well, you're about to find out, child. On the day of class, Mr. Tuttle, my professor, announced that we'd all be watching everyone's videos in class, and that prizes would be given to the top five videos. The prizes were nothing major, but it would be a pretty great honor to have the a veteran communication professional like Mr. Tuttle commend you for your work. He started playing the videos, and I was pretty impressed by a lot of them (although many had quite a bit of room for improvement). Towards the end of the pile of videos, I'd noticed that he hadn't played mine yet, which only served to make me more anxious. Then, he announced that he'd be playing the top five videos in the class. "Wait," I thought to myself. "If he hasn't played mine yet, then that means that I'm in the top five, right?". And right I was, in third place. I was honestly in shock to say the least. I quite literally half-assed it, when I could tell that some of the others who didn't make the top five put hours upon hours of work on theirs. It made me feel a little shitty, but I started thinking about how this could be a sign that I'm destined to be a news anchor. Haha. It's most certainly not my first choice in the career department, but it's definitely a going on the list of possibilities. For now, I'll drink from my brand new School of Communication beer cup, and take notes (which is Jacob language for "doodle") with my new School of Communication pen!
But I must say that the highlight of the week has got to be my experience with the Reaper.
Well, the Carolina Reaper, to be specific. For those who don't know, the Carolina Reaper currently holds the record for being the world's hottest chili pepper. And I ordered a bag of them on Amazon. I don't know what was going through my mind, but I suppose I wanted to prove something to myself. And lemme tell ya, the Reaper did not disappoint. Within 30 seconds, I was running about my room like a chicken missing its head. I wanted to bear the heat, but it was so uncomfortable, I was on my knees, crawling for the mini-fridge for milk. And the milk really helped (while I was taking the sip), but would always return. Soon, my face started to tingle, and I felt lightheaded. The immense pain I experienced still haunts me to this day.
Haha.
It was fun talking to you guys again! I hope you're doing aright! Until next time.
